What if my park is not in the city’s improvement plan?
If your park is not included in the most recent list of Cleveland park improvement plans for 2024, there is still plenty that can be done to improve, advocate for, and support your local park! Here are some ideas:
Find, or start, a ‘Friends of Group’ (i.e. Friends of Calgary Park) for your park: You can read our post offering tips on how to get started. Hint: your park may already have one!
Friends of Groups around Cleveland have often advocated for their park to be included in city improvements. This involves working with your council-member to find funds, contacting your local CDC, and/or working with city departments to develop upgrade plans.

Contact your council-member about potential park funding and upgrades. Council members often have extra money that can be used outside of city funding schedules for park improvements!
Find your council-member’s contact information in here. If you’re struggling to get in contact, we can help you reach out to your local CDC.
Casino Revenue Funds at councilmembers’ disposal have been used for parks and greenspace improvements in the past, check out Signal Cleveland’s database here.
Contact your CDC (Community Development Corporation) and ask about potential projects and opportunities to improve your local park. Find your CDC here.
CDC’s often work closely with the City and other partners on parks and greenspace work, and can help you navigate city processes and funding mechanisms.
