Who we are

The Cleveland Parks & Greenspace Coalition advocates for resident-led park stewardship and activation to build an equitable, culturally rich, and community-driven parks and recreation ecosystem in Cleveland

What we do

The Cleveland Parks & Greenspace Coalition brings together Cleveland residents and community partners to advocate for accessible, beautiful, and culturally relevant green spaces that enhance the life and health of all Clevelanders.

  • Convene advocates to share resources, strategies, and ideas.

  • Connect City Hall decision-makers to grassroots efforts to ensure Parks and Recreation policies, processes, and decisions are informed by residents.

  • Work one-on-one with grassroots park stewardship groups.

  • Build digital tools to help grassroots advocates achieve their goals.

Our Vision

We Believe…

  • Access to quality green space is a human right, not a privilege.

  • Resident ownership is vital for successful community parks.

  • Transparency in greenspace decision-making is mandatory.

We Envision…

A model for parks stewardship and decision-making driven by residents and grassroots organizations that dismantles the structural racism which has historically created inequities in parks access.

We Define Equity…

We understand equity as the “just and fair inclusion into a society in which all can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential. Unlocking the promise of the nation by unleashing the promise in us all.”

We center equity because not everyone has equal access to parks and greenspaces

Parks are essential infrastructure for a healthy, connected, and empowered Cleveland. Quality parks are critical for fighting environmental injustices created by systemic racism, such as 20th-century redlining policies in our city.
