Something is broken in my city park, how do I get it fixed?

Click here to register for Cleveland’s NEW 311 service request portal!

Submit broken park amenities, litter in parks, tree maintenance and more.

There are two improvement pathways for city parks:

  1. The Division of Park Maintenance in the Parks and Recreation Department.

  2. The Mayor’s Office of Capital Projects (MOCAP).

When do I contact the Division of Park Maintenance?

The Division of Park Maintenance manages routine repairs for park equipment and infrastructure.

Examples include: a broken swing, cracked concrete paths in the park, a ripped tennis court net, and other small scale issues that do not require the construction of a new park feature.

To contact, submit a 311 service request using the city’s digital portal. Once in 311, go to the “Services” tab and select the request needed for your park (ex: “Broken Bench in Park”)

  • Tip: you may need to create a 311 account (Click: “Register”)

If you need help navigating this process, every Cleveland Public Library branch has resources to help you submit a 311 request. You can also send us an email: parkscoalitioncle@gmail.com

When do I contact the Mayor’s Office of Capital Projects?

MOCAP manages large park improvements, such as the construction of a new playground or the addition of a new park feature. Sometimes, the Division of Park Maintenance will elevate issues they do not have the capacity to address to MOCAP.

As mentioned in our post on funding for city park projects, MOCAP funds projects through a three year general bonds cycle, so projects are often planned far in advance to ensure enough funding is available.

You can see all active MOCAP park projects on their website. If you would like to see a large improvement to your local park, begin by contacting your City Council Member and your local Community Development Corporation— they can help elevate projects to MOCAP’s attention.

If you have more questions, you can reach out the Jay Rauschenbach, the Planning Manager for Parks and Recreation in MOCAP: jrauschenbach@clevelandohio.gov
