Can I use the fire hydrant for water access in my city park?

You can request a “temporary/hydrant permit” from Cleveland Water, at the discretion of the Commissioner of Water, to access a fire hydrant on City of Cleveland property.

Temporary/Hydrant Permits are typically given for the following needs:

  • Construction

  • Demolition/dust control

  • Landscaping and community gardens

  • Filling containers

  • Cleaning

  • Flushing

  • Mixing cement

  • Filling swimming pools or ponds

You can check the Cleveland Water website and check the City of Cleveland code (§ 531.61) governing hydrant use to learn more. Without a special permit, it is against Cleveland City Ordnances to use a fire hydrant.

To request a permit or get more information, contact Cleveland Water at (216) 664-2444 or permitsandsales@clevelandwater.com
